How to be a successful pro-life advocate on your campus

Posted on September 4, 2018 by Katrina Gallic

It can be challenging to be a pro-life student on campus. At many colleges and universities, abortion is viewed as a sacred right and at the same time a normal medical procedure. As the new school year begins, I encourage my fellow pro-life students to take it upon yourself to work towards building a culture of life at our schools across the country.

Here are a few ideas to get started.

  1. Start a pro-life club.

One of the most effective ways to get your message out there is by starting a club. Whether you are attending college or high school, students are always looking to get involved and expand their resumes. Students for Life is an incredible organization that will allow you to meet like-minded students and truly make strides in changing your school’s culture. Find out if your campus already has a Students for Life organization and, if not, start your own!

  1. Encourage friendly discussions and debates.

Make your position known! There are countless ways to get your message out there. Sport a pro-life t-shirt, hat, or pin! People with opposing views, or who are just curious about the meaning of your clothes, are bound to come up to you and start a discussion. It is vital that you enter a discussion with as many statistics and facts as possible. However, it is just as important that you keep a caring, compassionate tone. Hatred and judgment will get you nowhere when discussing abortion.

  1. Free stuff!

People love freebies. If your campus will allow it, set up a booth with pro-life pins, magnets, and anything else you can get your hands on. You can use this to promote your Students for Life club or just to raise awareness for your cause. October 9th is the official pro-life cupcake day! Yes, that’s a thing. Get a group of friends together and bake a batch to give out at your school! Trust me, nobody will say no to a free cupcake. A lot of people oblivious to the subject will come for the free stuff and hopefully stay for the discussion. Every single mind you change may lead to a life saved.

  1. Sponsor a stork bus.

This is definitely one of my favorite ideas. Stork buses provide free counseling and ultrasounds to pregnant mothers. According to their website, four out of five women who enter a bus will end up choosing life. They have Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) that are meant to travel to locations mothers in need of compassion might be, i.e. college campuses. Currently, they are only accepting applications for rental from pregnancy resource centers. Odds are a local pregnancy resource center will be thrilled to help bring an MMU to your campus. This is an exceptional way to change your school’s culture and effectively save lives.

  1. Bring a pro-life speaker to your campus.

Bringing a pro-life speaker to your campus is a great way to make people aware of your movement and counter an anti-life culture. Hosting a speaker is definitely on the costly side of things, but the benefits will make it worthwhile. Students for Life has a comprehensive list of speakers that students may want to bring onto their campus as well as their contact information and average prices, check it out here!

Remember— we are the pro-life generation and change starts with you and your peers.

Let’s Consider Early Feminist’s Opposition to Abortion

Posted on August 27, 2018 by Katrina Gallic

This Women’s Equality Day, we would be wise to consider the words of the early feminists as we examine the progress we have made as women — and the obstacles we have yet to overcome.

There is one area in particular in which modern feminists are failing our sisters and our feminist foremothers: abortion. Early feminists opposed abortion as an exploitation of women—and modern feminists should, too.

In a stunning display of historic revisionism, NARAL Pro-Choice American President Ilyse Hogue recently claimed in a Cosmopolitan article that those who oppose abortion are not really anti-abortion but that “they are against a world where women can contribute equally and chart our own destiny in ways our grandmothers never thought possible.”

In other words, Hogue, a self-proclaimed feminist, believes that those who oppose abortion oppose women; and therefore those who are anti-abortion are anti-women.

But I wonder if Hogue — and other pro-abortion advocates who have said similar things — realize that they are calling the founding mothers of the feminist movement anti-woman. The claim that in order to be pro-woman you must also be pro-abortion runs contrary to what our feminist foremothers actually believed and wrote.

March for Life Statement on the Senate Pro-Life Amendment Vote

Posted on August 23, 2018 by Katrina Gallic

“March for Life is grateful to Senator Paul and to those who voted in favor of an amendment to the appropriations bill that would have banned funding to abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, our nation’s largest abortion provider and subject of Department of Justice investigation into the trafficking of aborted baby body parts. Unfortunately, many Senators who claim to be pro-life defied their constituents and the consensus of the American public by giving the abortion industry a pass. Almost two-thirds of Americans say they do not want to fund abortion with their tax dollars. Disentangling American taxpayers from the abortion industry is long overdue. Our elected representatives should join the national consensus and put an end to taxpayer funding of abortion, or risk being voted out of office.”

What’s Happening With The Protect Life Rule?

Posted on August 2, 2018 by Tom McClusky

Do you remember when Vice President Pence spoke at the 2017 March for Life, just days after President Trump’s inauguration?

During his March for Life speech, the Vice President shared:

“We will not rest until we restore a culture of life in America for ourselves and our posterity.”

Since then, many positive steps have been taken to protect life – including the proposed “Protect Life” Rule, which would block the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, from $60 million in taxpayer funds.

In May, the Trump Administration issued the proposed rule, which would restrict Title X federal funding from going to any entity that performs, supports, or refers for abortion.

Earlier this week, the public comment period for the Protect Life Rule closed, and March for Life activists submitted over 13,000 comments in support of this proposed rule.

Thank you!

I recently had the opportunity to talk with NPR about the historic nature of the Protect Life Rule, and the timeline for its completion:

“Changes to Title X would be as game-changing as securing a like-minded Supreme Court nominee, said Tom McClusky, president of March for Life Action, who has worked for two decades to tighten restrictions on abortion.

‘As we become more of a pro-life nation, this could be very well a turning point to help educate people on the difference between health care and abortion, and exactly what Roe v. Wade does as opposed to what people think Roe v. Wade does,’ he said.

After the public comment period ends July 31, the Department of Health and Human Services must go through thousands of submitted comments. This will take time, McClusky said.”

>>>> Read the entire article HERE.

This is a long-awaited action – since the Reagan Administration – and an important step in holding the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, accountable.

We will keep you updated as the Protect Life Rule goes through the final stages.

Thank you for your support of the pro-life cause!

March for Life in the News

Posted on August 1, 2018 by Katrina Gallic

An important part of our mission at the March for Life is to educate the public on current policy and represent the pro-life movement in the public square.

We are grateful to be considered a “go to” expert on pro-life issues by major media.

Here is our highlight reel from the last three months:

7.2 Washington Times – The Supreme Court rules to favor pregnancy centers

6.22 The Hill – Pope Francis is right — abortion is modern-day eugenics

6.12 Washington Examiner – The March for Life is still inspiring an international culture of life

6.8 Washington Post (LTE) – Arkansas’s abortion restriction

5.17 The Hill – Trump, taxpayers want Title X funding protected from abortion clinics

Major Print

7.20 New York Times – ‘I’m Doing It for the Babies’: Inside the Ground Game to Reverse Roe v. Wade

“Abortion is the single most significant human rights abuse of our time,” said Jeanne Mancini, president of the March for Life, which has brought tens of thousands of protesters to Washington every year since the Supreme Court legalized abortion in 1973. “I have a lot of hope for incremental laws — for example, a late-term abortion ban.”

7.9 FOX News – Kavanaugh nomination to Supreme Court cheered by conservatives

The president of March for Life, a pro-life organization and annual event that protests Roe V. Wade, said that Kavanaugh has “excellent professional qualifications,” proving he’s the right choice for the vacant seat.

“He is exceptionally qualified for the role and will no doubt serve as a fair, independent judge who will remain faithful to the Constitution,” said Jeanne Mancini, president of the event.

7.9 The Guardian – Trump names Brett Kavanaugh as nominee for next supreme court justice

And Jeanne Mancini, president of the anti-abortion organisation March for Life, said: “He is exceptionally qualified for the role and will no doubt serve as a fair, independent judge who will remain faithful to the constitution.”

6.29 AP News (CBS cross-publish) – Supreme Court change may limit, not kill, abortion rights

“I think the president’s list is a very strong list. I’m convinced the people on this list are Gorsuch-like,” said Jeanne Mancini, president of the March for Life.

6.26 Washington Post – Supreme Court decision on crisis pregnancy centers draws strong reaction from all sides

“Advertising or promoting abortion runs directly counter to the very reason pregnancy care centers exist — namely to enable and support women who want to choose life for their children to do so. The government has no business forcing these centers to violate their First Amendment right to free speech and, in doing so, work against their life-affirming mission.” – Jeanne Mancini, president, March for Life

6.26 Roll Call – Supreme Court Sides With Pregnancy Centers in Free Speech Case

Jeanne Mancini, president of March for Life, also said the advertising of abortion runs against the centers’ mission. “The government has no business compelling these centers to work against their life-affirming mission, violating their first amendment right to free speech,” she said.

6.7 New York Times – How to Participate in Politics

“There’s quite a bit of logistical work involved,” says Jeanne Mancini of March for Life, which plans a large anti-abortion march in Washington, D.C., every year. Being meticulous will help make the message of your demonstration more effective and help you avoid embarrassing snags.”

5.19 Boston Globe – Trump administration abortion rule sets off alarms in Mass.

“This money will now be redirected to comprehensive family health and planning centers that don’t perform abortions and understand that abortion is not health care,” March for Life president Jeanne Mancini said in a statement. She said the grass-roots antiabortion activists look forward to restoring “a culture of life here in the United States.”

5.18 Washington Post – Trump administration will pull funds from groups that perform abortions or provide referrals

Jeanne F. Mancini, president of the antiabortion group March for Life, praised the administration in a statement Friday.

“This money will now be redirected to comprehensive family health and planning centers that don’t perform abortions and understand that abortion is not health care,” Mancini said. “The pro-life grass roots will be pleased to see President Trump deliver on yet another pro-life promise.”

Deadline Approaching for Protect Life Rule!

Posted on July 24, 2018 by Bethany Peck

Do you remember?

Three years ago this month, the first videos from the Center for Medical Progress were released, revealing the barbaric fetal tissue trafficking practices happening in Planned Parenthood centers across the country.

An organization that commits over 320,000 abortions each year, and has been caught illegally transferring fetal tissue, should not be receiving a dime of taxpayer dollars.

While Congress has been unable to pass legislation to fully defund the nation’s largest abortion provider, the Trump Administration took action by issuing a proposed “Protect Life” rule.

This Health and Human Services rule would end Title X family planning funding for entities that perform, support, or refer for abortion. Planned Parenthood could lose $60 million dollars in federal funding, if this rule is implemented.

Your voice is needed to make this happen.

The deadline for the public comment is just a few days away. Will you take a minute to comment on the HHS Protect Life Rule?

On January 18, 2019 we will gather in Washington, D.C., our nation’s capital, to speak out against the greatest injustice of our time, abortion.

Since the 1973 Supreme Court cases, Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, which legalized abortion-on-demand in our country, over 60 million lives have been lost to abortion.

Saving lives, ending abortion, and promoting a culture of life is why we march each year. But we need you to be part of this effort!

You can begin by downloading our 2019 March for Life Trip Planner, and please share it with family and friends. Let’s make the 2019 March for Life the biggest and most impactful one yet.

>>>> Click HERE to download the 2019 March for Life Trip Planner.

Millions of Americans have come together at the March for Life over the years to be educated, equipped, and mobilized to end abortion. And millions more have been reached by our positive pro-life messaging that is shared through media and social media every January.

We hope that you will join us on January 18, 2019 to take a stand for life.

A marcher from this past January said: “It was a beautiful and empowering march. I am so hopeful because there were thousands of like-minded individuals marching to end abortion – an evil responsible for the 1/3 of my generation missing.”

If you’ve never marched before, we hope you will join us next January for this life-changing event. And for all those who have, we ask that you join us again – and bring friends!

We need YOU at the 2019 March for Life so that together, we can achieve a world where the beauty and dignity of every human life are valued and protected.

6 Ways to Get Ready for March for Life 2019

Posted on July 18, 2018 by Bethany Peck

6 Ways to Get Ready for March for Life 2019

It’s just 6 months until tens of thousands of pro-life Americans will march to our Nation’s Capital!

There are many ways you can support the pro-life movement and get ready for March for Life 2019 on Friday, January 18, 2019 in Washington, D.C.

Here are the top 6 things you can do to get ready…

  1. Download the March for Life 2019 Trip Planner

From conferences to rallies, the March for Life is filled with great opportunities to celebrate life, connect with marchers, and learn how to become a more effective pro-life advocate.

It can be hard to keep all of these details straight, especially when you are leading a whole group! That’s why we put all of the information you will need in one place.

Download our March for Life 2019 Trip Planner for all March for Life related details.

Still have questions? Connect with other March for Life trip leaders by joining our Trip Planner Facebook group.

  1. Give to a local pro-life pregnancy resource center.

The sole focus of pro-life pregnancy centers is to care for parents and their children, particularly when facing an unexpected pregnancy. These centers collectively offer over $100 million every year in free services, ranging from sonograms to baby diapers.

The live-saving work of pregnancy centers relies on the generosity of pro-lifers in their local community.

Go to https://optionline.org/ to find a life-affirming pregnancy clinic in your community.

  1. Contact your Senators and tell them to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court

On Monday July 9th, President Trump announced Judge Brett Kavanaugh as his Supreme Court nominee.

As pro-life marchers, we understand the impact of the Supreme Court, and the crucial importance of having justices, like Scalia and Gorsuch, who interpret the Constitution as it was originally written.

Judge Kavanaugh is exceptionally qualified for the role and will no doubt serve as a fair, independent judge who will remain faithful to the Constitution.

>>>> Urge your Senators to give Kavanaugh an open and fair confirmation to the Supreme Court.

  1. Comment on HHS Title X Protect Life Rule

The HHS proposed a new Title X Protect Life rule that will stop all Title X funds from going to any institution that performs, advocates, or supports abortion in any way. With this rule in place, Planned Parenthood will lose $40 – $60 million in tax payer dollars every year.

>>>> Share your support for the rule by adding your comments to the Protect Life rule.

  1. Thank a Pro-life OBGYN

Hundreds of OBGYNs are standing against the abortion industry and using their voice to protect life.

Take some time to show your support for OBGYN’s who courageously advocate for life.

Send them a card. Give them a phone call. Show these pro-life doctors that their bravery, commitment to life, and hard work is appreciated!

Go to https://aaplog.org/ to find pro-life doctors near you.

  1. Share on social media that you march for life

Our movement continues to grow but we need your voice.

Share our “I march for life” graphic on social media to let your friends and family know that you stand for the right to life.

Include a link to our 2019 website and invite others to march with you.

Thank you for using your voice to defend LIFE.

We’ll see you on January, 18th 2019!

March for Life Statement on Supreme Court Nomination

Posted on July 10, 2018 by Bethany Peck

“President Trump has chosen another strong nominee in Judge Brett Kavanaugh. A graduate of Yale College and Law School, Judge Kavanaugh’s experience includes clerking for Supreme Court Justice Kennedy, service in the Executive Branch, private practice experience, and most recently twelve years working on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals. In addition to Kavanaugh’s excellent professional qualifications, he is a man of faith, a family man, and a girls basketball coach. He is exceptionally qualified for the role and will no doubt serve as a fair, independent judge who will remain faithful to the Constitution. According to the 2016 presidential election exit polls, one in five voters reported their primary motivating factor in voting was the Supreme Court, and of those voters, President Trump won a resounding 57%. We thank President Trump for delivering on his campaign promise by choosing another Gorsuch-like nominee. March for Life will work to assure that Judge Kavanaugh has a fair confirmation process so that we and the American public can learn more about this qualified nominee.”

– Jeanne Mancini, March for Life President
