How Feminism Betrayed Women on Abortion

A new book shows quite clearly how modern feminism betrayed women with its embrace of abortion on demand.

Sex Matters by Mona Charen describes quite clearly and convincingly how legal abortion has done tremendous harm to women in the U.S.

Charen writes of feminist icon Betty Friedan, author of The Feminine Mystique, “It is a deep tragedy that she never saw how cruel a thing she embraced by endorsing abortion on demand.”

Charen wisely points out that the women who lobbied for the right to vote in the early part of the 20th century “recoiled from abortion.” But that for the feminist leaders of the ’60s and ’70s abortion was a “sacrament of their secular religion.” She notes that there is a “certain brutality in the feminist approach to abortion.” This is because feminists asked women to “harden their hearts against the most vulnerable members of the human family.”

Pro-abortion forces promote a narrative that obscures certain realities. For instance, the U.S. has a waiting list of individuals who wish to adopt children. In fact, couples line up for the opportunity to adopt children who have been diagnosed with Down syndrome.

As Charen posits, the feminists’ “callousness toward the unborn is not only morally blind, but it betrays the traditional feminine sensitivity to the needs and welfare of children.”

Sex Matters is a bold treatise which demonstrates the fundamental flaws in the pro-abortion argument. That it is written by a woman shows that abortion culture does not have the appeal to many women that abortion promoters claim.

“Reproductive Rights” Aren’t Right at All

Posted on June 19, 2018 by maria

The pain of abortion is often unspeakable

By Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director

In recent years it has become common for abortion advocates to use the phrase “reproductive rights” to describe their position.

But the phrase is incredibly misleading.

First of all, abortion is a denial of the fact of reproduction. It is a denial of the humanity of the child in the womb. It is a denial that the baby is a distinct human being with DNA separate from the mother.

Also, one can hardly say pregnant women are exercising their rights when, in as many as 60 percent of cases, women are coerced into having abortions. This means that a boyfriend, husband, parent, or even grandparent may be pressuring them to abort.

The phrase also fails to recognize the fact that a girl in the womb, once she matures, may be capable of reproduction herself. An abortion forever denies that female child the ability to have her own child when she is older.

“Reproductive rights,” when applied to abortion, is a fallacy. The truly accurate way to describe an abortion is the taking of an innocent life and the wounding of a mother. It’s that simple–and that heartbreaking.

That is the theme of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life’s campaign to educate people about the abortion pill reversal process.

With the increasing prevalence of chemical abortion, our message is more important than ever.  For mothers who have already taken the first abortion pill, and begun the process of aborting their child, it is a reminder that they can call the abortion pill reversal hotline at 1-877-558-0333.  A nurse will direct them to a local doctor who can administer life-saving medication that will allow them to continue their pregnancy and allow their precious baby to live.  More information about the abortion pill reversal process can be found by visiting www.abortionpillreversal.com.

Our multi-faceted campaign will feature a beautiful brochure that lets a woman know the truth about the abortion pill reversal process that the abortion industry is trying to hide—that as long as she takes the abortion pill reversal medication within 24-48 hours she can save her baby’s life.  This brochure is being printed now, and will be sent out to Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation members in the next week or so, along with instructions on how members can receive additional copies for distribution.  We will also be sending multiple copies of the brochure to our hundreds of pro-life pregnancy centers, chapters and affiliates, and pro-life sidewalk counselors across the Commonwealth.  It will also involve a feature presentation at our pro-life education booth throughout the spring and summer, and an increased presence on our website, in our radio outreach, and anywhere else we can get the word out.

This is where you can help.  It is critically important that this information get in the hands of the women who need it most. Carefully consider whether you can help underwrite our effort to disseminate the information with your most generous gift yet. You can make a donation to this effort by clicking here.  If you are already a member, you will get a copy of the brochure in the mail. If you are not, a pdf of the brochure will be available on our website at www.paprolife.org once it is finalized.  Thank you for helping us in this important effort to remind mothers that there is always a reason to choose life!

Congresswoman’s Miracle Baby

Posted on February 28, 2018 by dbrindle

We witnessed a living miracle at the 2018 March for Life. Abigail Beutler stood on stage with her mother, Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler, charming the crowd with her sweetness and smiles!

Abigail’s presence is a miracle because while the Congresswoman was pregnant with Abigail, her first child, she and her husband Dan received the heartbreaking news that their baby had “zero percent chance of survival.”

Their unborn baby was diagnosed with Potter’s Syndrome, and doctors told the Beutlers there was nothing that could be done; their baby would die and that “a lot of women at this point would be across the street scheduling an abortion.”

However, that was out of the question for the couple. Dan Beutler shared with CNN’s Dana Bash, “Being able to hear the heartbeat … we had this gut feeling of there has to be something — I mean, a doctor may say it, but she’s moving. That’s pretty convincing. We know she’s still alive.”

Thus began their miracle journey of choosing love and hope to fight for their unborn daughter. After a series of experimental treatments, Abigail was born, making medical history. “She was the first baby to survive childbirth with no kidneys. People Magazine ran a spread calling her ‘the girl who lived.’”

At the 2018 March for Life, with her family by her side, Congresswoman Herrerra Beutler shared these moving words:

“I was told there was no chance of survival – but they were wrong. They weren’t bad people – they just had never seen a baby with this condition survive. But that’s the point: What if the doctor is wrong about others too? What if together, we can break new ground, find new treatments that will benefit more than just our own families? What if the baby won’t have that significant health condition or disability? Or even if she does – what if every baby was at least given a shot to reach her true, miraculous potential?

Who would we be as a nation? What richness would society get to see? Instead of the equivalent of two generations missing because of that choice, would we have already witnessed one of those individuals having discovered a cure for cancer? The key to eradicating extreme poverty?

What if we had spent the last 45 years – the length of time abortion has been allowed in the United States – pouring time and money into finding a cure in the womb for medical conditions like spina bifida, micro-sephaly, or congenital heart defects?

What if that money was used to end the baby’s disease – not her life?”

You can watch her full remarks HERE:

She concluded her remarks with a hopeful word that reminds us all again, that love saves lives:

“Today, we have come together to say – there’s hope! For every expectant mother who has been given a devastating diagnosis. For every woman who feels fear, anger, or anxiety because she doesn’t know how she can afford to care for a child. For every woman who feels hopeless: God loves you. For every baby given up on by the status quo: God still does miracles.

We must recognize the unborn child as the miracle he or she is – a person developing with extraordinary potential and purpose – who deserves a fighting chance to live and just maybe reach that extraordinary potential. After all, I believe it’s the only way our society will truly reach ours.”

Love Saves Lives: Raquel and Jasmine

Posted on February 12, 2018 by dbrindle

Sister Bethany Madonna gave a stirring speech at the 2018 March for Life, inspiring us all to live out this year’s theme: “Love Saves Lives.”

If you’re not familiar with them, the Sisters of Life is a “contemplative / active religious community of women founded in 1991 by John Cardinal O’Connor for the protection and enhancement of the sacredness of every human life. Like all religious communities, we take the three traditional vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. We also are consecrated under a special, fourth vow to protect and enhance the sacredness of human life.”

In her remarks, Sister Bethany told the story of a young woman named Raquel, a friend of the Sisters of Life. Raquel was expecting a baby, and had a life-altering encounter with another pregnant young woman facing an unexpected pregnancy.

Watch Sister Bethany share this powerful story:

Despite considering abortion, Raquel’s friend was loved and encouraged, ultimately choosing life and giving birth to twins!

As Sister Bethany concludes:

“It was such a small thing, this loving exchange, and the impact reaches into eternity. You may not see the impact of your love, but God sees it; the love of your heart is totally unique to you, and only you can give it. Your love saves lives.”

This is a great reminder to each of us as we seek to make an impact for life in our communities. Even the smallest actions, such as an encouraging and loving word, can save lives.

WATCH: A Mother’s Love Saved Her Life

Posted on February 12, 2018 by dbrindle

At the 2018 March for Life Conference and Youth Rally, we heard many inspiring stories embodying this year’s theme, “Love Saves Lives.”

One of these stories was shared by Christina Bennett. Christina is an outspoken voice in the pro-life movement.

After graduating from college with a degree in Business Communication she moved to D.C and joined the pro-life ministry of the Justice House of Prayer and Bound4Life. Christina is a policy analyst at the Family Institute of Connecticut, and a speaker for the National Black Pro-Life Coalition.

In a biographical piece for Live Action News, Christina writes: “In the early 1980s, I was scheduled to be aborted. In a hospital in the city of Hartford, Connecticut, I had an appointment to die. A janitor approached my mother and spoke to her, giving her the strength to walk out.”

Watch Christina share more about her story, and the loving choice her mother made that saved Christina’s life.

Christina’s words are beautiful and inspiring –>>

“My mother’s love saved my own life. Love is more than a feeling, love is more than an emotion; love is a decision, love is an action, love is something we do because we care about other people. It is a sacrifice we make on behalf of other people; that we think of them better than we think of ourselves. That’s what my mother did for me; a loving act that has now allowed me to love other people. I’ve been able to work with women and see the lives of children saved because my mom saved my life.”

Thank you Christina for sharing your story and heroic love of your mother. Love truly does save lives.

NFL Players and Family Speaking out for Life

Posted on February 2, 2018 by dbrindle

Over the past few years, the March for Life has been blessed to have the support of several individuals affiliated with the NFL.

Former Baltimore Ravens center Matt Birk spoke at the 2018 March for Life, joined by his wife Adrianna and their children. Matt and Adrianna are living examples of the 2018 theme, “Love Saves Lives.”

We’re excited to have @BirkMatt at the 2018 #MarchforLife! Adoption has changed his family’s life because #LoveSavesLives. #WhyWeMarch pic.twitter.com/5CSqJS4H1r

— March for Life (@March_for_Life) January 16, 2018

In his March for Life remarks, Matt reminded us of the importance of compassion in our work to end abortion, and how to offer loving encouragement to anyone considering abortion.

“It’s important to remember that those who are pro-abortion, the war is not against them, it’s against the evil of abortion, that those people, they are our brothers and sisters. They are children of God. They are made in His likeness.”

“What is more beautiful than a brand new baby? A brand new baby is perfect. It looks perfect. It sounds perfect. It smells perfect. It’s pure, it’s incapable of resentment, or hatred, or anger. It’s perfect. So I would tell someone that I care about, I’d say I don’t want you to have an abortion, because it would prevent you from experiencing the fullness of joy that God has for your life.”

Pam Tebow, mother of NFL and MLB athlete Tim Tebow, also joined us at both the 2018 March for Life as well as the Rose Dinner that evening.

“I was told to abort immediately or else I would die.” – Pam Tebow, describing her pregnancy with her son Tim Tebow. #WhyWeMarch #MarchForLife pic.twitter.com/SuvaahNYdr

— March for Life (@March_for_Life) January 20, 2018

She shared the courageous and miraculous story of Tim Tebow’s birth:

“When Timmy entered the world he (the doctor) said, “This is a miracle baby”. He said, “I’ve never witnessed such a miracle”, because only a tiny piece of the placenta was intact. He was somewhat malnourished though, so we asked all of our family and friends in the states to pray that he would grow big and strong, and if you’ve seen him lately, you’ll know God answered those prayers.”

Pam Tebow also referenced the Super Bowl ad she and Tim featured in several years ago, produced by Focus on the Family. A Barna Group survery estimated that 5.5. million people rethought their position on abortion because of that commercial, including one woman who chose life over abortion after seeing it. Stories of love and sacrifice can truly change lives!

At March for Life, Pam Tebow Recounts How Super Bowl Ad Saved Baby’s Life https://t.co/uGypzx6ZlB @Streamdotorg #MarchforLife #WhyWeMarch

— March for Life (@March_for_Life) January 23, 2018

And at the 2017 March for Life, Baltimore Raven’s Tight End Benjamin Watson had a powerful message for the crowd, particularly men.

“We need to be the leaders, caretakers, and providers that we were meant to be. We as men must stand up for the lives of the innocent and their mothers in crisis.”

>>>> Read more about Watson’s appearance at the March for Life or watch the clip below of his remarks.

Watson hints at a very important point. When a woman faces an unexpected pregnancy, she is more likely to choose life IF she has the support and encouragement of even just one person.

In fact, research from the umbrella Pregnancy Center group, Care Net, finds that “the father of the baby is (by far) the most influential factor in a mother’s decision to keep or abort her child. Sadly, so many fathers either push the mother to abort or leave the decision to her, essentially stepping away from their responsibility.”

Watson ends with an encouraging note in his exhortation:

“Even if it wasn’t demonstrated to you by a father, you can be different. You can change the course of generations.”

Each of us has our own sphere of influence to impact others – whether it is one person or a group of people – to choose life and to end “the unthinkable practice of abortion in the United States of America.”

We can all take inspiration from these influential individuals and their passion and commitment to life!
