The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary every year since is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, abortion.

“Broken Washington Process” Contributes to Concerns of Pro-Life Leaders

Washington, D.C – Last night, the House of Representatives released the text of the FY 2016 Omnibus. The bill maintains the status quo with current pro-life provisions and adds funds for abstinence education while cutting funds to organizations that support coercive abortions. However the legislation fails to address a number of critical pro-life concerns namely churches being forced to directly pay for abortions through their insurance plans; and taxpayer funding of abortions through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement as well as through the state exchanges.

“We are told that the Republican Leadership fought hard for conscience rights and for that I am grateful,” said Tom McClusky, March for Life Action Vice President of Government Affairs. “However, because of the closed door process, the exclusion of all but a handful of elected officials and the absence of any acknowledgment of this terrible ethical dilemma from Leadership, California churches will continue to be forced to pay for abortions through their own insurance, a violation of federal law. With this spending bill, Congress shoulders the responsibility alongside the Obama Administration for this gross violation of our First Amendment rights. Ironically, the text of this bill came out on the 224th anniversary of the ratification of the Bill of Rights.”

“Moreover the ultimate problem is that the budgetary process is broken,” Mr. McClusky added. “The most important requirement for our legislators is to implement a structured order to fund the government, which has not been accomplished for over 20 years. And this breakdown is the responsibility of both the White House and Congress, regardless of party control. When Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) accepted the speaker’s gavel, he made a vow to return to regular order, in which the Congress runs by deliberation rather than fiat and lawmakers have more control over amending and shaping legislation. We look forward to working with Speaker Ryan and Members of Congress when they return in 2016 in his efforts to bring order to this current chaos.”

The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world. Pro-Life Leaders Urge House to Move Forward in Defunding Abortion Giant

Washington, D.C – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Monday national security has become the top issue Republicans are looking promote as a possible “add on” in the upcoming government spending bill, and said this issue may end up replacing efforts to defund Planned Parenthood.

Pro-Life leaders across the board are urging House Leadership not to delay the fight to defund Planned Parenthood.

“Planned Parenthood is the largest abortionist in the United States and it is abhorrent that taxpayers are being forced to subsidize them,” said Tom McClusky, President of March for Life Action. “The abortion giant is not the only pro-life concern that is in front of Congress. To name just a few, there are currently pro-life Christian hospitals being forced to pay for abortions, taxpayers being forced to pay for abortions for detained immigrants and Congressional staff on Obamacare exchanges that offer abortions despite that being against Federal law. If Congress wants to protect taxpayers from being complicit in the deaths of innocents, those are all good places to start.”

Planned Parenthood commits close to 330,000 abortions every year. In their 2013-2014 report Planned Parenthood stated their total revenue was over $1.3 billion. 46 percent of that revenue came from federal, state and city governments. In that same year, the non-profit had a budget surplus of $127.1 million, some of which was likely profit from trafficking of little hearts, lungs and livers of little babies.

The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world. Panel Must Consist of Members that can Investigate without Conflict of Interest

Washington, D.C – It was recently reported that House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has picked six strong abortion rights supporters for the GOP-led panel on Planned Parenthood, setting up a showdown over the already-controversial probe. However, it has just been revealed that Planned Parenthood has paid nearly $100,000 into electing the six Democrats just selected to sit on the new House Select Investigative Panel probing Planned Parenthood’s atrocities.
The March for Life questions the ethical implications of these appointments in the following statement:
“If the Minority Leader genuinely wanted to get to the truth of the matter she would have been bold and appointed members of unquestionable integrity, such as Congressman Dan Lipinski,” said Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education & Defense Fund. “Instead, she appointed members whose campaigns have received thousands of dollars from the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, to investigate the practices of that very group.”

The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Pro-Life Congressman Joe Pitts a True Leader

Pro-Life Congressman Joe Pitts a True Leader

Legacy of Representative Pitts will be the Example he Set for All Members of Congress

Washington, D.C – On Friday morning, it was announced that Congressman Joe Pitts (R-PA) would be retiring after a sterling twenty years serving his district and the country. Congressman Pitts has been a staunch pro-life leader and set an example for all members of Congress, and Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund, praised the leadership he provided on behalf of the pro-life movement.

“The pro-life movement will be losing a true leader in Congress with the retirement of Representative Joe Pitts,” said Mrs. Mancini. “We praise his Leadership as head of the Values Action Team, a coalition of pro-family Members, and as Chair of the Health Subcommittee in Energy and Commerce. However it is the example he set for other Members of Congress that will be his true legacy. “

The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. House of Representatives Elects a Pro-Life Speaker

House of Representatives Elects a Pro-Life Speaker

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has a Strong Record of Pro-Life Legislation

Washington, D.C. — The United States House of Representatives today elected Congressman Paul Ryan to serve as Speaker of the House. The March for Life Education & Defense Fund applauded the United States House of Representatives for electing a strong advocate for pro-life issues in Congressman Paul Ryan and urged the new Speaker of the House to return to regular order.

“By embracing the Freedom Caucus’ proposal to return to regular order, Speaker Ryan can have a meaningful impact on the pro-life movement,” said March for Life Vice President for Governmental Affairs Tom McClusky. “For close to twenty years, the appropriations process has been broken, resulting in an endless series of last minute spending bills. As a result of this failure, American taxpayers have been stuck with 20th century pro-life provisions in a 21st century world. Without the proper appropriations process, the necessary pro-life provisions such as the protection of conscience rights for California hospitals being forced by the state of California to pay for abortions ends up left out of these eleventh hour bills.”

The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world. Other States Must Follow Texas’ Lead, Defund Planned Parenthood

Washington, D.C.  – The March for Life Education and Defense Fund today applauded the State of Texas for taking the lead in completely defunding Planned Parenthood from all taxpayer funding, including severing its ties with Medicaid funding.

“The March for Life applauds Texas’ decision to sever all ties with the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood,” said Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund. “We encourage all other states to follow suit in seeking all options to stop taxpayer money from flowing to Planned Parenthood and to reallocate those resources to federally qualified health centers, which outnumber Planned Parenthood clinics by 20 to 1 and provide many more health services.”

The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now-infamous Supreme Court decisions in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world.  The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary every year since is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time, abortion.

Exposing Planned Parenthood

Posted on July 22, 2015 by Jeanne Mancini

As more videos continue to surface that expose Planned Parenthood’s egregious organ harvesting practices and blatant disregard for the dignity of the human person the time is now for Congress to stop using taxpayer funds to support the organization. Congress should divest from the organization at all levels of government and lead an investigation into the organization’s horrific practices.

M4L-Meme2The release of videos by the Center for Medical Progress has continued to expose the true practices of Planned Parenthood, along with their complete disrespect for and undignified treatment of human life. The practice of harvesting and selling baby parts is nauseating and illegal. No American should be forced to participate in this unsettling practice through taxpayer funding.

Americans are disgusted by what they’ve witnessed on these videos. Congress, state legislatures and city governments must act to bring to an end all federal funding of Planned Parenthood.

Thankfully, in addition to the waves of public outcry on social media this week, there are members of Congress who are speaking out as well. On July 21, Representative Sean Duffy hosted a special order about Planned Parenthood’s atrocities. Please take a few moments to watch some of these speeches and thank these members for their words and action.

Good News! Abortion Rate Declines

Posted on June 11, 2015 by Jeanne Mancini

Good News!

Isn’t it fun to celebrate when good things happen? For pro-life Americans, June has seen a handful of victories, including two just this week.

THF-2015-MarchForLife-0484First, the Associated Press announced on Monday, June 8 that they recently conducted a survey of available abortion-related data in most states since 2010. The consensus? Abortions are on the decrease (by 12% overall) in the United States! Read the full story HERE.

The best analysis I’ve seen of the survey is an article by Dr. Michael New who is cautiously optimistic about the decline but makes a necessary point that the U.S. Government does not require state health departments to track and report such data. Therefore, some caution is prudent when considering the decline.

“Some context: One important caveat that received little attention in the article is that abortion data from state health departments can be unreliable. Abortion reporting standards vary greatly across states. Sometimes reported decreases are caused by less rigorous reporting rather than actual declines in the incidence of abortion. Secondly, the AP piece’s analysis would have been better if it had focused on abortion rates rather than the overall number of abortions, since some of the fluctuations in abortion numbers might have been affected by changes in population or demographics.”

A second piece of uplifting news this week relates to a 2013 Texas pro-life/women’s health law. On Tuesday, most of the law was upheld in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. Included in this law is the policy that abortion clinics are held to “ambulatory facility standards,” which means that such clinics are expected to have the same health standards as other outpatient surgical facilities. Frankly, this part of the law should be a “win” not only for those of us working against the human rights abuse of abortion, but also for anyone advocating for women’s health.

Surprisingly, until recently most states did not regulate abortion clinics; they were held to lesser health standards than veterinarian clinics or beauty salons. In the wake of the horrific stories at the clinic of Kermit Gosnell, states began to introduce such laws in large part to further protect women. Sadly, often those who are advocating for abortion equate women’s health with greater access to abortion even if the clinics will be substandard.

For more on both stories, watch this clip where Brian Patrick interviewed me on EWTN News Nightly.

Nothing About Abortion is Luxurious

Posted on April 6, 2015 by Jeanne Mancini

Recently, the Washington Post featured Carafem, a new abortion-pill facility in Montgomery County, Maryland, the suburbs of Washington, D.C.

With its natural wood floors and plush upholstery, Carafem aims to feel more like a spa than a medical clinic. But the slick ads set to go up in Metro stations across the Washington region leave nothing to doubt: “Abortion. Yeah, we do that.”

As a person who regularly comes into contact with women and men who deeply regret their abortions, I was saddened to read about DC’s newest business, a “luxury spa” chemical-abortion clinic in “Yes, they do abortions.”  The flippant nature in which this clinic is approaching a deeply personal and unnatural procedure is unsettling and misleading.  In the interest of informed consent, the clinic should let the women know that a chemical abortion is even more difficult on women than surgical abortions, physically and psychologically, according to peer-reviewed academic research.

I’ll never forget the conversation I had with the father of a 18 year-old beautiful young woman, Holly, who died as a result of a chemical abortion that was legally administered in a clinic.  Americans are increasingly pro-life not because of a bad marketing strategy by the abortion industry, but because of the inherently destructive “product” being sold.  An abortion is the furthest thing from a spa treatment as can be imagined.
