Together Strong: Life Unites!

Posted on September 11, 2020 by Jeanne Mancini

Every year, the March for Life chooses a theme that conveys a timely message. Because today is marked by such division, unrest, and fear, there is a great need for us to come together and be reminded of our special mission and our strength in truth. Though each of us brings our talents to the life movement, we are far stronger together. And so, our 2021 theme is, “Together Strong: Life Unites.”

Each of us has a critical and irreplaceable role to play in building a culture of life. As Mother Teresa of Calcutta put it, “You can do what I cannot do. I can do what you cannot do. Together we can do great things.” From choosing adoption to joyfully accepting the responsibilities of fatherhood and motherhood, from sidewalk counseling to lobbying, from prenatal care to post-abortion support, from praying for the most vulnerable to voting to protect them, everyone is desperately needed. Our gifts and talents, united in the service of one common mission, make us strong.

In 2020, President Trump acknowledged the diverse contributions but unified mission of pro-life people everywhere, saying, “You stand for life each and every day. You provide housing, education, jobs, and medical care to the women you serve. You find loving families for children in need of a forever home. You host baby showers for expectant moms … You just make it your life’s mission to help spread God’s grace.”

While our 2021 theme showcases how life unifies us, it also reveals the divisive and disintegrating reality of abortion. Abortion divides a mother from her child. The abortion industry has deceived many women into believing that pregnancy is a disease, motherhood means giving up one’s dreams, and abortion is empowering.

Abortion divides women from the support and love they need. Studies show that most women who choose abortion do so because of a lack of support from a partner or a lack of financial resources, among other similar reasons. Instead of providing women with what they need to thrive as mothers, the abortion industry preys upon their fear and insecurity, even actively spreading misinformation about the pro-life organizations that would love to offer support.

Abortion divides a man from his fatherhood. Some abortion activists attempt to remove men from the discussion by advancing a “my body, my choice” narrative. But being a voice for the voiceless and unborn is everyone’s concern. In other cases, abortion allows men to walk away from their responsibility and duty to protect and care for a mother and her child.

Abortion divides siblings, ensuring some children will never know their sisters or brothers. Abortion divides grandfather from grandson and grandmother from granddaughter. The abortion industry callously turns a blind eye to the devastating loss of generations that it has caused.

The abortion industry even divides us from reality itself when it denies the scientific fact that human life begins at fertilization.

But perhaps the most tragic consequence of abortion is that it divides the world from love. Every child brings love into the world, so every life lost to abortion is a loss of love in the world.

The March for Life is the largest annual gathering of pro-life people in the world. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people fill the streets of our nation’s capital: young people full of life and enthusiasm, mothers, fathers, grandparents, children, little ones bundled in strollers, people of all ethnic backgrounds, Republicans and Democrats, Catholics, Protestants, Jews, and atheists. We march together united by the common understanding that every life, from the moment of conception, is precious. And we will not stop marching until every life is valued and protected.

Five Things You Didn’t Know About Kamala Harris

Posted on August 12, 2020 by Jeanne Mancini

Each year we invite the President of the United States to participate in the March for Life. Nellie Gray, my predecessor, invited Pres. Obama. In more recent years I invited President Trump to participate, and thankfully he accepted and in doing so became the first President in history to address the March for Life, the world’s largest annual human rights demonstration.

As a 501c3 nonprofit, we are bipartisan and do not endorse candidates. However, we do everything possible to educate Marchers about candidates.

Yesterday, an announcement was made regarding Senator Kamala Harris (D-Calif.). We want to be sure that pro-life America has the necessary information about Senator Harris’ background, policies, and votes on the inherent dignity of the human person. Read more below.

1. Senator Harris is generously supported by our nation’s largest abortion provider. Planned Parenthood. The organization has consistently and generously contributed to her campaigns. A generosity she has rewarded them for many times.

2. During Senator Harris’ time as the Attorney General of California, e-mails obtained by reporters showed that her office collaborated with Planned Parenthood—clearly a conflict of interest—to produce legislation that targeted pro-life undercover journalist, David Daleiden.

David and his group, the Center for Medical Progress, helped expose the trafficking of baby body parts by abortion providers like Planned Parenthood. Instead of going after the traffickers, Kamala Harris abused her office to go after David Daleiden!

3. Senator Harris believes pro-life people should not have a voice in the public square. In November 2018, Harris targetedly criticized Brian Buescher, a Catholic federal district court nominee from Nebraska, about his affiliation with the Knights of Columbus, simply because the organization was Catholic.

4. Sen. Harris supports using the power of the Federal government to overturn hundreds of laws in the states that protect the unborn and women. These laws include state taxpayer funding of abortion, ultrasounds prior to an abortion, parental involvement in abortions for minors, and stronger oversight of abortionists and abortion facilities.

5. Senator Harris’s policies are out of touch with even most pro-choice Americans. She supports radical policies including in 2019 and 2020, when she voted to refuse protections for babies born alive after an abortion. She has also voted in support of late-term abortions. She is even supportive of eliminating the popular bi-partisan Hyde Amendment, which protects taxpayers from paying for abortions and is estimated to have saved 2.13 million lives since being enacted.

Friends, this election your pro-life vote is extremely important.

March for Life Statement on Biden-Harris Ticket

Posted on August 11, 2020 by Ann Clare Levy

Joe Biden’s selection of Kamala Harris as a running mate has left no room for doubt; he is the abortion candidate, leaving behind any semblance of being a moderate. And sadly this Democratic ticket is perhaps the most pro-abortion in history, in favor of radical abortion policies out of touch with mainstream Americans like abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy and paid for by taxpayers. A Biden-Harris administration will translate to a profound lack of protection and respect for the most vulnerable Americans, the unborn.”

March for Life Statement on Vought Confirmation

Posted on July 21, 2020 by Jeanne Mancini

The director of the Office of Management and Budget oversees so many pro-life policies, we are grateful for the confirmation of pro-life warrior Russ Vought. His proven track record of dealing with the Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance rule or the Title X Family Planning Program, among other things, has shown Vought to be the right person for that critical role. Especially when personnel is policy, we need more government officials who treat all people, including the unborn, with the dignity and respect they deserve.”

March for Life Statement on June Medical Services v. Russo Supreme Court Decision

Posted on June 29, 2020 by Jeanne Mancini

The March for Life is appalled by the Supreme Court’s decision today which failed to hold Louisiana abortion facilities accountable for their numerous health and safety violations. The legislation at issue in June Medical Services v. Russo was designed to safeguard women’s health and safety, which the abortion business in Louisiana egregiously sidelined for the sake of profit. No abortion facility should receive a free pass to provide substandard care. This decision underscores the importance of nominating and confirming judges who refrain from legislating from the bench, something pro-life voters will certainly remember come November.”

TAKE ACTION: Stop Taxpayer Funding of Abortion

Posted on June 9, 2020 by Mackenzie Rodgers

The last few weeks have been an onslaught of information, and so we want to make sure a few things remain clear:

  1. According to the still-intact Hyde Amendment, it is illegal for taxpayer dollars to fund abortion, and;
  2. Despite this, Planned Parenthood—a billion-dollar organization with thousands of employees—received $80 MILLION dollars from the Small Business Administration’s Coronavirus stimulus package despite protection contained within the package language that abortion providers would not qualify. They still have yet to give it back.

The pro-life community needs to take a stand on this improper use of Covid-19 relief funds! Contact your legislators and tell them that you FULLY OPPOSE all taxpayer funding of abortion:

Take Action!

Unfortunately, House Leadership, along with many other members of Congress, is working to quietly include abortion-funding provisions into bills. We must continue to be diligent!

Now is the time to remind your elected officials that you will not stand for taxpayer funding of abortion.

8 Ways the Ill-Named HEROES Act Funds Abortion

Posted on June 5, 2020 by Ann Clare Levy

For the second time in dealing with Coronavirus, Politifact decided that defending Speaker Nancy Pelosi was more important than presenting the facts. Their latest posting unfortunately portrays the March for Life as liars—even though they never took the initiative to ask for information to substantiate our claim that the HEROES Act would help fund abortion. Not only can we confidently support our claim, but we have collected EIGHT different pieces of overwhelming evidence.

March for Life Action took to twitter to stand up to Politifact and present the facts. You can read a break down of the thread below.

Nancy Pelosi's HEROES Act does support abortion despite what Politifact says. If @PolitiFact had asked before publishing their "analysis" we would have supplied them the following information with citations: 1/13 (long thread, bring coffee)

— March for Life Action (@MFLAction) June 4, 2020

While it would be great if Politifact got the record straight, what is really important is that we take a stand to make sure our lawmakers know that pro-life Americans DO NOT support ANY public funding of the abortion industry. Click below to send a message to your elected officials about demanding Hyde protections in funding bills.

Take Action!

8 Ways the Ill-Named HEROES Act Funds Abortion

1. Division A, Title III—Financial Services and General Government (FSGG)—Coronavirus State Fiscal Relief Fund and Coronavirus Local Fiscal Relief Fund (pgs. 22-33): These two relief funds, lack pro-life protections, appropriates $915 billion.

2. Division A, Title VI—Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education—Public Health and Social Services Emergency Fund—Health Care Provider Relief Fund. Division C, Title VI, Subtitle A—Assistance to Providers and Health System—HEALTH CARE PROVIDER RELIEF FUND—SEC. 30611: The bill creates a novel Health Care Provider Relief Fund containing $100 billion that could go to abortion providers. (pg. 570), (pg. 585), (pg. 87).

3. Division B, Title II—Additional Relief for Workers: This division includes expansions of federal subsidies of employer-sponsored health insurance, including plans that cover abortion: Subtitle B— Section 20211 – Tax Credits to Prevent Business Interruption (pg. 236). Subtitle C— Section 20221 – Credits for Paid Sick and Family Leave (pg. 267). Through this credit, taxpayers subsidize the cost of health insurance that may often include elective abortion. This bill extends the tax credit an additional calendar year but does not include any Hyde protections.

4. Division C, Title III—Private Insurance Provisions, Subtitle B—Worker Health Coverage Protection (pg. 402-448): Many employer-sponsored health care plans include elective abortions, but no Hyde protections were applied to ensure that taxpayer dollars would not finance abortion-covering plans.

5. Division I, Small Business Provisions— AMENDMENTS TO THE PAYCHECK PROTECTION PROGRAM (beginning pg. 821): The HEROES Act removes the affiliation rule from the PPP allowing the abortion-giant Planned Parenthood access to the funds.

6. Division Q, Title I—Provisions Relating to State, Local, Tribal, and Private Sector Workers (pg. 1527). The bill creates a COVID-19 Heroes Fund that will issue grants for employers to pay individual essential workers $13/hour up to $10,000 above normal employee earnings until 60 days after the last day of the COVID-19 public health emergency. Nothing bars abortion clinic employees from eligibility for this premium pay.

7. The Manager’s Amendment (Title VII—Other Matters, Sec. 30701), — States that, both in this bill and provisions in past COVID-19 relief bills signed into law, no person shall be “excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of, or subjected to discrimination… based on any factor … such as… pregnancy, childbirth, and related medical conditions…”. If adopted, this provision could override the Hyde protections that have been included in this bill and in past COVID-19-related legislation: the CARES Act (HR 748), the Families First Coronavirus Relief Act (HR 6201), and the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2020 (HR 6074).

8. The Manager’s Amendment — Also contains two provisions (SEC. 30307 and SEC. 30308) that provide funding to group health insurance plans. Neither provision includes any Hyde protection language to ensure taxpayer dollars do not fund health plans that include elective abortion.

We will continue to provide you with this important pro-life information, but we need your help to make sure our elected officials hear from you to really make a difference!
