#BornAliveAct: Every child deserves care and protection

Posted on August 6, 2019 by Ann Clare Levy

Yesterday marked the six-month anniversary of the introduction of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (H.R. 962) in the House by Rep. Ann Wagner. The bill aims to ensure that children born alive after an attempted abortion receive “the same degree of professional skill, care and diligence to preserve the life and health of the child as a reasonably diligent and conscientious health care practitioner would render to any other child born alive at the same gestational age.”

Over these six months, 80 pro-life Representatives have come to the House floor to call for a vote on the Born-Alive Act, and 80 times these Representatives have been blocked by Speaker Pelosi.

The care and protection of innocent new-born children should not be a controversial issue. According to polling by the Heritage Foundation, 76% of Americans support requiring doctors to provide medical care to infants that survive failed abortions.

To call attention to this disregard of human life and the importance of the Born Alive Act, the March for Life and others took to social media.

Thanks to all who joined us, and check out some of the highlights below!

Today marks 6 months since the #BornAliveAct that I cosponsored, which would require that a child born alive after an attempted abortion receive appropriate treatment & be transferred to a hospital, was introduced. It is time to pass this common-sense bill.

The #BornAliveAct ensures doctors “must exercise the same degree of professional skill, care and diligence to preserve the life and health of the child as a… physician would render to any other child born alive as the same gestational age.” This is NOT a partisan issue. pic.twitter.com/FShmAzXAh1

The #BornAliveAct is needed because the law on the books now is not adequate. Babies are still being born alive after #abortion and allowed to die. #EndInfanticide

Six Months Until the 2020 March for Life

Posted on July 24, 2019 by Bethany Peck

Today marks six months until the 2020 March for Life!

On January 24, 2020 we will march for life in Washington, D.C.

This is what first-time marcher Bridgette had to say this past January:

“I went to the March for Life the first time this year and it was so EMPOWERING! For the first time in my life, I was completely surrounded by passionate people of all ages and from all backgrounds who truly believe in the innate dignity of human life in all stages and forms! It was a relief to know that I am not alone in my beliefs and helped give me the courage to stand up for them!”

If you have never been to the March for Life, will you join us in 2020?

Take it from Bridgette that the experience will impact you in many ways, inspiring you to be a stronger, more educated, and more courageous advocate for the unborn.

Whether the 2020 March for Life is your first time, or your 20th, we need every pro-life American to join us on January 24, 2020!

We must be a voice for the over 60 million unborn lives who have been lost to abortion. We must be a voice for women and families scarred by abortion. We must be a voice to call for an end to abortion extremism in our country.

We hope you will join us and invite others –  you can share the graphic below on social media!

The Pro-Life Movement is on the March

Posted on July 19, 2019 by Bethany Peck

Do you ever feel like you are alone in your pro-life beliefs?

Or that the pro-life movement can’t compete with the powerful and well-funded abortion lobby?

The truth is – you are not alone in standing for life.

And the cause of life – despite Hollywood, the media, the abortion lobby, and extreme pro-abortion politicians – is gaining ground.

In a powerful op-ed for the Washington Examiner, March for Life President Jeanne Mancini writes about the pro-life awakening in our country, as more and more Americans are identifying as pro-life.

Check out the full op-ed, “Despite the celebs and the big money, Americans are trending pro-life,” to read what she attributes this shift to.

Jeanne concludes with “Americans love and respect life, which was freely given to all of us, and which we must safeguard for those who cannot protect themselves.”

That is what we seek to do at the March for Life each and every day – to be a voice for those who cannot protect themselves.

What’s the Protect Life Rule All About?

Posted on July 17, 2019 by Bethany Peck

Last spring, in March of 2018, Congress passed an Omnibus spending bill that continued to fund the nation’s largest abortion provider, despite a pro-life majority in Congress. March for Life and March for Life Action, along with the pro-life grassroots, were extremely disappointed. March for Life Action activists sent 25,000 messages to Capitol Hill to share that sentiment.

But that did not stop us from pressing forward towards the important goal of defunding Planned Parenthood. We began petitioning HHS Secretary Alex Azar to take action; thousands of marchers lent their voice to this important cause. And the Administration heard our voice!

In May 2018, HHS announced the Protect Life Rule, which would disentangle taxpayer dollars from funding abortion, with the money redirected to comprehensive family health and planning centers that don’t perform abortions and understand that abortion is not healthcare. As March for Life President Jeanne Mancini wrote at the time, “For decades the March for Life and others have been working to reinstate Title X regulations that clearly separate abortion from healthcare  – abortion is not healthcare.”

March for Life activists continued to respond in support to the Protect Life Rule as it went through the public comment period at HHS, submitting over 13,000 comments in support of the rule. Overall, From March through July of 2018, March for Life advocates sent 89,000 messages to Congress about important pro-life policies related to defunding Planned Parenthood and the Title X rule.

The rule wound its way through the court system, with the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, a bench that is not typically favorable to the pro-life cause, just last week upholding the rule. The March for Life welcomes the decision from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals lifting the injunctions on the Trump Administration’s Title X rule, and applauds the Trump Administration for letting the Protect Life Rule take effect immediately. Abortion is neither health care nor family planning and therefore should not be funded by the Title X program. Plus, a majority of Americans oppose taxpayer funding of abortion. This regulation helps to get taxpayers out of the abortion business, without cutting resources for those in need.

We must not lose sight of why our efforts and the Protect Life Rule are important. Four years ago this month, in July of 2015, the first videos from the Center for Medical Progress were released, revealing the barbaric fetal tissue trafficking practices happening in Planned Parenthood centers across the country. An organization that commits over 320,000 abortions each year, and has been caught illegally transferring fetal tissue, should not be receiving a dime of taxpayer money.

There is also a very important lesson in the story of the Protect Life Rule. Our efforts to impact laws and policies for the pro-life cause have been going on for decades. In an op-ed for The Hill last year, March for Life Action President Tom McClusky documented the history of the regulations dating back to the Reagan Administration. The Protect Life Rule still faces a court challenge and it’s quite possible that its fate will be in the hands in the U.S. Supreme Court.

But we must never lose heart as we seek to promote life-affirming laws and policies – the lives of the unborn and the health of women are at stake. Our voices matter, and we must continue to raise them – in the public square, with our lawmakers and policy makers, and with our friends and family. Your voice matters – you can make a difference.

Planned Parenthood President Fired

Posted on July 17, 2019 by Ann Clare Levy

On Tuesday, July 16, the President of Planned Parenthood, Dr. Leana Wen, was removed from her position by the Board Chairs.

In an open statement posted to Twitter, Dr. Wen claimed her removal was due to “philosophical differences” between her and the Board’s vision for the abortion organization’s future. In a separate letter to her colleagues, Dr. Wen stated the differences arose from her goals to refocus Planned Parenthood as a health care provider. She continued, “The new Board leadership has determined that the priority of Planned Parenthood moving forward is to double down on abortion rights advocacy.”

The removal of Dr. Wen is a clear indication that Planned Parenthood is a political organization whose main goal is abortion, and not the health care of its patients.

On Fox News, March for Life President Jeanne Mancini commented on Dr. Wen’s dismissal: “Make no mistake, Planned Parenthood is a political machine and their bottom line is about abortion, not healthcare.”

March for Life Statement on Ninth Circuit Title X Ruling

Posted on July 11, 2019 by Bethany Peck

“We welcome the news that Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has allowed the Trump Administration’s Title X rule to go into effect. Abortion is neither health care nor family planning and therefore should not be funded by the Title X program. This regulation helps to get taxpayers out of the abortion business, without cutting resources for those in need, and is a victory for all Americans.”

What is the Pro-Life Consensus?

Posted on July 2, 2019 by Bethany Peck

The first half of 2019 has brought a few dark moments, and, conversely, many bright spots with regard to building a culture of life.

On the unfortunate end, several states passed the most extreme laws our country has ever seen, such as New York and Illinois passing “Reproductive Health Acts” allowing abortion up until birth, and, in the case of Illinois, create a “right” to abortion through reproductive health language.

These laws are in stark contrast to what the majority of Americans support. The fact is that the large majority of Americans for eleven years strong have consensus – a pro-life consensus.

Thankfully, we have also seen many states taking action to reflect the pro-life consensus and to protect the most vulnerable in the womb.

For example, in Louisiana, one of our 2019 March for Life speakers, Representative Katrina Jackson, was instrumental in passing legislation that would ban abortions after a heartbeat is detected. The bill was signed into law by her fellow Democrat, Governor John Bel Edwards. Many other states have passed life-affirming laws as well!

The pro-life consensus in America is bi-partisan. Eleven years of polling reveal that 75% of Americans would limit abortion to- at most – the first three months of pregnancy. Even 6 out of 10 pro-choice Americans believe that abortion should have real, legal limits! And, two-thirds of Americans oppose taxpayer funding of abortion.

March for Life President Jeanne Mancini had the opportunity to talk about this pro-life consensus on the Ingraham Angle on Fox News last week.

Watch this powerful clip in which she emphatically states that social justice begins in the womb.

Even in the midst of the extreme abortion bills being introduced, or signed into law, we have seen pro-life Americans react with truth and love to the human rights abuse of today, as Jeanne Mancini describes abortion.

In April, 7,000 Virginians marched at the state capitol against abortion extremism in the first official Virginia March for Life. In May, over 20,000 gathered in Times Square to celebrate life – in stark contrast to the callousness of the abortion law passed and celebrated earlier this year in New York.

Do you agree that it’s time for abortion extremism to end?

We do! And that is why we march for life every January – to end abortion – and why we seek to spread the truth each and every day of the year.

The 2020 March for Life is a little over six months away – we hope you will join us!

March for Life Applauds Administration for Halting Aborted Fetal Tissue Research Funding

Posted on June 5, 2019 by Katrina Gallic

“March for Life applauds the Administration for halting funding for research that requires aborted fetal organs and tissue. Most Americans do not want their tax dollars creating a marketplace for aborted baby body parts which are then implanted into mice and used for experimentation. This type of research involves the gross violation of basic human rights and certainly, the government has no business funding it.”

Kodi Lee And The Blindness of Margaret Sanger

Posted on May 31, 2019 by Katrina Gallic

A beautiful video from America’s Got Talent is currently circulating the internet. It opens with a young man named Kodi, who is blind and autistic, being led to the front of the America’s Got Talent stage by his mom. Life in Kodi’s world has many challenges, his mom shares with the judges; but, she continues, “through music and performing he was able to stand living in this world, because when you’re autistic it’s really hard to do what everybody else does. It actually has saved his life playing music.”

Then, when his mom steps away from the piano after whispering an encouraging word to him – the moment of truth – Kodi starts to play and, well, you should hear for yourself:

As headlines swirl with strong agreement or rejection of Justice Thomas’s recent opinion on the Supreme Court’s refusal to hear the lawsuit against an Indiana law that bans abortions being sought solely on the basis of the sex, race, or diagnosed fetal anomaly of the child, it seems this video gets to the heart of the entire debate.

In Thomas’s spectacular opinion, he details abortion’s eugenic roots, pointing to how the African American community and disability community are disproportionately targeted for abortion and that millions of girls are missing because of sex-selective abortions.

Margaret Sanger, Founder of Planned Parenthood

In page after page, he calls attention to the eugenic agenda of Planned Parenthood founder, Margret Sanger.

Sanger wrote: “the unbalance between the birth rate of the ‘unfit’ and the ‘fit’ [is] admittedly the greatest present menace to civilization…the most urgent problem today is how to limit and discourage the over-fertility of the mentally and physically defective.”

In Margaret Sanger’s view, pre-born babies who, like Kodi, are blind and/or autistic, ought to never be born. They are, to her, “unfit” and therefore unwelcome. Watching the joy on every audience member’s face as they witness the miracle of Kodi’s musical gift, and seeing the tears in Kodi’s eyes when Gabrielle Union hits the golden buzzer, it is hard to believe that anyone could actually agree with Sanger. It’s hard to imagine how someone could believe that pre-born babies like him shouldn’t be given at least a shot at life, a chance to reach his or her full potential. And yet, only a few years ago Iceland boasted of “eradicating Down syndrome”, and by “eradicate” they meant abort every child with Down syndrome, of course. Even in the United States, a child diagnosed in the womb with Down syndrome is more likely to be aborted than born. Shouldn’t it be common sense, and part of our common understanding of humanity, that no person because of race, sex, or health should ever be condemned as unfit and sentenced to abortion?

Amidst this dark situation, Kodi’s well-deserved standing ovation and the overwhelmingly positive reaction from all sides of the political spectrum can give us hope. Perhaps we have not totally forgotten that, as Mother Teresa put it, “we belong to each other.” Our tearful reaction to Kodi and his mother reveal that we know deep down, what Sanger and eugenicists like her cannot understand – our dignity doesn’t come from arbitrary standards of fitness or “wanted-ness”, rather our dignity, our ultimate value, comes from our shared humanity. Only by reclaiming this belief will we be capable of making abortion, the intentional taking of innocent unborn life, not just illegal, but unthinkable.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful gift with the world, Kodi.

Supreme Court Weighs in on Indiana Abortion Laws

Posted on May 28, 2019 by Katrina Gallic

“Every human life has inherent value and dignity. We welcome the Supreme Court’s ruling today in favor of a provision requiring more dignified treatment of human remains following the tragedy of abortion. We look forward to the day, too, when the Court will consider the use of abortion to eliminate persons on the basis of race, sex, or disability. No one deserves to lose her life just because she was born with Down syndrome or because of the color of her skin. As Justice Thomas commented in his concurring opinion, laws like this that bar such discrimination ‘promote a State’s compelling interest in preventing abortion from becoming a tool of modern day eugenics.’”
